To your left are the gorge and caverns. To your right you will see a thru hiker, easily recognized by his beard and grungy clothes. These hikers can often be sensed long before seen by their distinctive odor. Please do not feed the hikers because they learn to associate food with tourists and have been known to become a nuisance.

We should have been doing this the whole time, but we now have a guestbook! We want to know who is using this site to keep up with Jim. (This is different from the Message Board.) So please sign the guestbook. Thanks.

For many years, it has been a dream of Jim Boatwright (a.k.a. BOAT) to hike the entire Appalachian Trail.   On April 5th, 2003, the first step (of many) was taken in the quest for turning this dream into reality.

My name is John.  Jim and I designed this website as a way for his friends to stay in touch with him. You'll notice that some of the pages were written by Jim and some were written by me...

Look around.  See what you think.  Read his journal.   View the picture galleries.  Leave Jim a message.   Look at the trail maps.  See what Jim took with him.   View the glossary or the F.A.Q.'s page.

If there is anything you think should be added to the site, or you have a comment for me, you can email me at:

The blue line on the map indicates Jim's last reported position.
